About

Carmen Poulin: Originally from Québec where her family still resides, she first came to New Brunswick to complete her BA (Psyc & Bio) at UNB. She obtained her MA and PhD degrees (Neuropsychology) at Queen’s U (Kingston, ON). She also studied in Spain (Universidad Internacional Menéndez Y Pelayo, Santander) as a visiting student, and completed an internship in Germany at the Max-Planck-Institut für Biologische Kybernetik (Tübingen). She returned to her native province and worked at the Pinel Institute as a clinical researcher. She then came back to New Brunswick to take on an academic position at UNB where she now occupies the position of Associate Dean of Arts (Research & Graduate Studies) and Professor of Psychology and Gender & Women’s Studies.

Carmen Poulin’s research is grounded in a feminist understanding of reality. In particular, she is interested in the impact of social practices and ideologies on the experiences of women and marginalised groups, especially those working within men-dominated organisations (e.g., women firefighters, 2SLGBTQIA+ in the military). She is the co-developer of the Psycho-Social Ethnography of the Commonplace (P-SEC) methodology and co-director of the P-SEC research group.
