About
Alissa Moore earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the University of British Columbia in 2009 with a major in Microbiology and Immunology. After working in various positions (e.g., learning disabilities resource centre in Montréal, and a medical biology laboratory in France), she returned to university and obtained a nursing degree. The nursing program at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) particularly appealed to her because of the emphasis it places on social justice issues and socio-economic determinants of health. She graduated from UNB with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 2019.
In 2015, during her studies at UNB, she started working as a research assistant with the P-SEC research group. In 2020, she was hired full-time as the project co-ordinator for the P-SEC group. Alissa enjoys being part of P-SEC’s interdisciplinary research approach which contributes to the understanding and improvement of the experiences of marginalised groups. In addition to her coordination work of research projects (Métis identity, Informal caregivers of older adults, LGBTQIA2S+ in the military), she has collaborated predominantly on the P-SEC projects examining the experience and health of older adults (90+) living independently, and that of Canadian women firefighters.
She plans to further her training and pursue a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Public Health. She is especially interested in harm reduction and upstream social policy-level interventions to promote population health and health equity.
